Eastern Mountain Sports Announces Adventures, Treks and Trail Program

Posted in Pack News, EMS on November 25th, 2007

Eastern Mountain Sports, a leading specialty outdoor retailer renowned for its longstanding Schools program, has expanded its offerings with the Adventures, Treks and Trails program that will organize and lead adventurous vacations and expeditions to the most spectacular destinations on the globe. Eastern Mountain Sports Adventures, Treks and Trails has developed several dozen unique peak ascents, cultural treks, and multi-sport adventures designed for any outdoor enthusiast willing to take their expeditions to the next level. The itineraries vary from a Mount Kilimanjaro climb and wildlife walking safari in Africa to a Tibetan Cultural Adventure and Mount Everest climb to a New Year’s Eve hike and celebration in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

The program was designed by Eastern Mountain Sports’ Becky Harrison, one of the most experienced female guides in the Himalayas today. From a lifetime of exploring and ascending peaks, as well as extensive high altitude research, Harrison has taken great care in designing each of the program’s offerings.

“Eastern Mountain Sports Adventures, Treks and Trails is really a labor of love and a culmination of years of research and explorations,” said Harrison. “We offer itineraries that vary considerably from the norm and provide a much deeper experience than your typical guided trek. It is so important to not only keep your participant in mind by doing such things as allowing more time for acclimatization and gradual ascents, but also really connecting with the porters we work with to ensure they are properly trained and taken care of as an extension of our employee base.”

Consumers can choose from 14-day to three- and four-day trips through Adventures, Treks and Trails. There are also options for women only trips, teen adventures and consumers can customize their own itineraries . More information on the programs can be found on www.emstrek.com.

EMS Upgrade Your Gear Sale Generates $15,000 for Wildlands Conservation

Posted in Pack News, EMS on November 25th, 2007

Eastern Mountain Sports raised $15,000 for The Conservation Alliance during the retailer’s Upgrade Your Gear sale event held October 18-21. The company held a similar event in April, bringing the total contribution to more than $30,000 between the two events.

The company pledged to share 1 percent of sales equally between the Alliance and The Access Fund. Each of the 68 Eastern Mountain Sports stores participated in the promotion, raising a total of $30,000, half of which will go to the Alliance’s effort to preserve North America’s wildlands and rivers for their habitat and recreational values.

“Eastern Mountain Sports customers are passionate about conserving their outdoor playground and appreciate our continued support for wildland conservation,” said Will Manzer, President and CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. “The Conservation Alliance has a long history of supporting effective conservation initiatives, and we’re pleased that our sale event continues to benefit their efforts.”

An active member of The Conservation Alliance since 1997, Eastern Mountain Sports wanted to go beyond annual membership dues to demonstrate a greater commitment to conservation.

“For the second time this year, Eastern Mountain Sports has drawn their customers into our conservation efforts,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “The sale generated valuable funds for the Alliance, and added value to customers’ shopping experience.”

The Conservation Alliance has contributed more than $600,000 to conservation projects in the Northeastern US, where most Eastern Mountain Sports stores are located.

Eastern Mountain Sports Donates One Percent of Semi-Annual Sale to Conservation Alliance and Access Fund

Posted in Coupons & Deals, EMS on October 27th, 2007

Eastern Mountain Sports, one of the nation’s leading outdoor specialty retailers, is continuing its partnership with the Access Fund and the Conservation Alliance by donating one percent of all proceeds from its semi-annual Upgrade Your Gear sale at all store locations October 18-21, 2007. The proceeds will be divided equally between the Access Fund, a national, non-profit organization dedicated to keeping climbing areas open and conserving the climbing environment, and the Conservation Alliance, a group of outdoor industry companies that work together to support conservation efforts.

“As both the Access Fund and the Conservation Alliance support the natural resources where we – and our customers – work and play, our continued support of both organizations is a natural extension of our business,” said Eastern Mountain Sports President and CEO Will Manzer. “Our Upgrade Your Gear sales are always extremely popular, and our staff and customers are more than happy to contribute to these causes that are so close to our hearts.”

“Eastern Mountain Sports has been a key partner in our efforts to support conservation projects in the Northeastern U.S.,” said John Sterling, executive director, Conservation Alliance. “With leadership and a commitment to protecting the environment, Eastern Mountain Sports demonstrates that businesses play an important role in saving wildlands for future generations of people and wildlife alike.”

Eastern Mountain Sports Celebrates 40 Years

Posted in Pack News, EMS on October 11th, 2007

Eastern Mountain Sports, a leading specialty outdoor retailer, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this fall by offering consumers expanded offerings of its outdoor apparel and gear through larger formatted stores and a return to its core outdoor roots on which the retailer was founded. The new stores, which Eastern Mountain Sports has already successfully opened in five northeast market locations, are double the size of previous stores and feature an experiential shopping layout with visuals designed to enhance and streamline the shopping experience.

“Eastern Mountain Sports was founded by two climbers with the intention of providing quality gear at prices that reflect honest value,” said Will Manzer, president and CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. “As we mark this important milestone, we are more focused now on that mission – and being a true outfitter for the outdoor athlete. “Our new store formats are intended to engage a younger consumer while also staying true to customers who have been with us for the last 40 years. The success of these store expansions has been even better than expected, and we look forward to many more in the next few years as we continue to concentrate on markets in the Northeast where the brand was born.”

The return to Eastern Mountain Sports’ core outdoor roots also means a revitalization of its renowned School programs. Its Climbing School is the oldest in North America. The Eastern Mountain Sports School programs not only educate consumers but also train Eastern Mountain Sports staff, known as “Guides,” to deliver authentic, credible and knowledgeable service to our outdoor customers. The School programs include Climb, Kayak, Ski (telemark and snowboard) and Mountain Biking.

“The Eastern Mountain Sports School programs are integrated into all facets of our business,” continued Manzer. “The authenticity and credibility of our instructors is a touchstone for everything we do.”

The Eastern Mountain Sports new store format devotes more inventory to its core outdoor heritage and other pursuits that outdoor enthusiasts are most likely to engage in, including climbing, mountain biking, trail running, hiking, camping and kayaking. With a focus on building an active outdoor community, each new store features an interactive “Hub” gathering area for sharing community, upcoming events and adventure planning information. The new store locations continue the tradition of Eastern Mountain Sports’ Foot Gurus – sales associates specially trained to analyze feet and custom fit athletic footwear.

Founded in 1967 by two New England rock climbers in Wellesley, Mass., and based in Peterborough, N.H., Eastern Mountain Sports is one of the nation’s leading outfitters of outdoor gear, clothing, footwear and accessories with 67 retail stores in 12 states. Eastern Mountain Sports designs and sells products for outdoor adventurers who participate in a variety of sports, such as mountaineering, backpacking, camping, hiking, adventure racing, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and snow sports. Eastern Mountain Sports product and technology is tested by its product development and quality assurance teams in conjunction with the Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing, Kayaking and Ski Schools.
