JanSport Opens its new Company Store

Posted in Pack News, Jansport on October 25th, 2007

JanSport celebrated its grand opening of its new company store on September 14, 2007. It is located adjacent to the JanSport headquarters in Appleton on N820 County Road CB.

The new 6,200 sq. ft. JanSport Company Store sits between a bustling thoroughfare of Wisconsin Ave and Hwy CB, just west of the Fox River Mall. The store welcomes guests with a lounge area that captures JanSport’s heritage displaying outdoor-rich books and classic JanSport memorabilia. The shop also features an integrated product presentation, replete with the newest merchandise from collegiate apparel to backpacks and award-winning technical packs, in addition to travel collections and accessories for men, women and children. JanSport’s new location also boasts its “treasure chest” section of excess, obsolete and damaged merchandise.

“While we wanted the new store to offer customers an expanded JanSport product presentation to include 1st quality backpacks, luggage and collegiate clothing, it was critical that it still offer the $5.00 to $10.00 college decorated clothing and other merchandise deals that have brought shoppers to the JanSport Company Store from all over the Fox Cities. So it’s the same as it was, but simultaneously so much more!” says Ann Daw, JanSport Director of Marketing.

The company adopted the unique building area adjacent to its headquarters that is currently home to JanSport’s Customer Service staff, in addition to 160 other VF Outdoor employees, turning it into a world-class destination for outdoor enthusiasts and shoppers alike. Inside, the store design mimics the brand philosophy: a blend of nature and innovation using reclaimed barn board to create its merchandise floor displays, keeping true to the rustic nature and feel of the outdoors. In addition to being JanSport’s Custom Division headquarters, Appleton, Wisconsin is the birthplace of JanSport’s Collegiate Apparel and remains the place where its clothing is still manufactured to date.

JanSport Company Store hours are 10:00am-9:00pm Monday-Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm on Saturday, and 11:00am-5:00pm on Sunday.

Posted in Daypacks, Jansport on August 8th, 2007

In engineering school at Cornell, the idea of K.I.S.S. was drilled into our heads (Keep It Simple Stupid!). The designers at Jansport have obviously kept this in mind with their classic Big Student Backpack. The Big Student has been around for a long time, and since it ain’t broke, Jansport needn’t fix it. What they have done though is offer this backpack in a plethora of colors. From pink daiquiri to classic black, you’ll be sure to find the color you need for toting your books and gear around campus. There is a total of 2100 cubic inches of well organized space. There are two main compartments, and three smaller accessory pockets. You’ll be able to load this sucker up with plenty text books and carry them in comfort with the S-curved cushioned shoulder straps. Jansport is so confident in their design and wormanship, that the Big Student comes with thier great lifetime warranty.

The Hippie Guide to Climbing the Corporate Ladder & Other Mountains by Skip Yowell, JanSport co-founder

Posted in Pack News, Jansport on August 7th, 2007

The Hippie Guide to Climbing the Corporate Ladder & Other Mountains chronicles the adventures and accomplishments of Skip Yowell, one of the founders of Jansport. In 1967, Skip Yowell, his cousin Murray Pletz, and Murray’s wife Jan founded JanSport with nothing more than a sewing machine and a fierce determination to make the best and most dependable backpack on the market.

Says Larry Burke, Editor-in-Chief, Outside Magazine: “Skip’s account of the founding of JanSport wreaks of honesty, humor, and enough anecdotes to stir a memory in almost anyone who has spent time outside. His tale takes you from a small room above a transmission shop to a global enterprise and packs enough adventures to keep the fire stoked and the beer on ice for hours.”

Told directly by Skip without a ghost writer, you get a behind-the-scenes look at how Skip and his team built Jansport into a world class leader in the outdoor industry. While Skip may not be the most eloquent writer, his stories rope you in and keep you entertained. Plus the artwork and photos are amazing.
